Julienne Coutler
Julienne Coutler was born and raised in Peru, IL. She attended St. Joseph Grade School and LP High School. She received her Bachelor's degree and master's in Education at Illinois State University. She and her younger sister Carol went into teaching because they both loved playing school. Although her sister ended up teaching in Dwight, she began her career in teaching at GSW in the autumn of 1964. She retired in the spring of 2003. While at GSW, she started a pep club to take students to away games. She directed plays for about ten years and moved the English department from English 1,2,3, and 4 to specific topics such as composition and novels, to name a few.
Additionally, she taught an English class from Joliet Junior College that gave seniors credit from both schools, now known as Dual Credit Courses! She credits some of her fellow teachers who helped her in many of these events. Julienne was so impressed by the students and their families that it took only 40 years to leave in her retirement.
